Karen Shayne from Brentwood, TN and Judy Pearson, from Chicago, IL founded the Women's Survivor Alliance in 2012 as a way to build a community and educate women whose lives have been touched by cancer.
Survivors themselves, Judy battled breast cancer while Karen is an ovarian and uterine cancer survivor. The pair boned over their struggles, "It's truly a sisterhood," Shayne said of their joint effort forming the WSA.
I met Karen and Judy when they were in Nashville preparing for the National Women's Survivor convention at the Gaylord Opryland hotel in August. Smiles and laughter were a constant theme of shoot as we wandered the Opryland's beautiful atrium for an upcoming feature on them in The American Association for Cancer Research's annual progress report.
