Just a splash

Of color that is.

This is under the Halsted street bridge on the Kennedy (I-90/94) headed up to Roscoe Village.

Tis the season

I didn't really need to gas up the truck, but when I saw this sign at a station I had to stop.

I had some time between two assignments and drove around this neighborhood in Oswego. There were lots of birds....
... and lots of the exact same houses. American Dream anyone?

High Five

Redbird arena had this great birds head painted in the middle of the court. I tried all weekend to make something work with it, but was never really happy with the results. Oh well, can't win'em all.
This is my consolation prize...

The Congress

I spent St. Paddy's day watching The Tossers, a local Irish band, with Jordan in the city. I had to be sans camera at the show, but this is on the way to Lake Shore Drive.

Tossin' Cookies

Had quite the day today.

I got an assignment to shoot an instrument panel on a plane. I went to the local airport to check it out and when I got there they said seeing it on the ground wouldn't do it justice...I had to go up in the air.
and so begins my love affair with flying....
I love it..... it hates me....
10 minutes in and I'm solid..... I start shooting and that's when it got ugly.

Let's just say that there was a very unfortunate cow in a field somewhere in Sugar Grove.
Oh yeah... I then proceeded to loose my glasses along with my cookies somewhere between 5 and 10,000 feet.

Weekend fun

A few from this weekend spent down at the lake.

Not the lake... This was on my way into Chi-town to pick up Jordan.
Dad doesn't make it onto this blog enough, so here is the grill master himself...
And the lady herself. You'd think that by now she would just give up hiding from photos....

Say Cheese!

About a year ago I noticed some people had just as much fun trying to take a photo of the photographer as I did of them and so began this little project....

"You can take my picture if I can take yours."

Okok, so it's not technically pointing at me, but I liked it anyway...

Bonus features! Dude............. Bonus!

Quicky

Quick update from Redbird Arena in Normal, Ill.

Oswego lost their 3A semi final game to Hillcrest 43-54.Montini won their 3A semi-final game over Springfield 57-40.

Off to shoot Bolingbrook in their 4A semi-final game.

Drive by's

Driving and shooting has long been a favorite pastime of mine. Probably not the safest, but fun none the less.
Here are a few from my travels this past week or so.

I-88 during a snow storm.
Cool greenhouse on Route 51.

Truck shadow driving back north on Route 51.

Kylie

Kylie Arnold is one of the coolest kids I have met. She is two years old and last August was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
Last week, a writer and I followed her and her mother as they went for chemo treatments at Children's Memorial.
The story ran on Sunday, check it out HERE.
I had plans to keep following this family, but access issues unfortunately stopped those quickly.
The two days I spent with Kylie and her mom were great and I will definitely be thinking of them in the coming weeks as she continues with her treatments.

Chicago Auto Show

Went to the auto show last weekend with the Family to oogle at vehicles we could never own. I must say, I was rather disappointed this year. Only a few concept cars, and nothing new that really tickled my fancy.
Oh well, maybe next year.

I was being spied on....
Ohhhhhhhh, the Dodge booth. Dangerous territory for me and probably my favorite stop of the show. I was hoping to see some sort of hybrid truck but it was not to be. They did hang a Dodge Ram upside down though. Very cool.

Royal Repeat

The Lady Royals repeated their state title tonight and defeated Routt 38-32. It was a close game, only 12-12 at half-time, but H-BR managed to pull out a win with a late run in the 4th quarter. I spent most of the game on the corners of the floor, but they had a balcony up high that I had noticed yesterday and spent the first quarter up there.

Hinckley-Big Rock's cheering section showed up in force again to cheer them on to victory.

The end of the game was pretty emotional as expected. Most of the team hadn't changed since last years win and are now seniors so this is their last year.

Semi-final fun

The Hinckley-Big Rock girls basketball team is playing for their second State championship in a row. Tonight they got one step closer by defeating Ridgewood in the semi's 49-44.

This is my first sporting event in quite awhile so I was a bit nervous as the game kicked off, but got back into a groove pretty quick. This is HBR's standout, Jenna Thorpe. She is a senior this year and has a full ride to NIU to play basketball.
I found out my good friend Beck Diefenbach was going to be shooting the games also. Beck is a great shooter that I learned a lot from during his intern days at the Naperville Sun. I would suggest a peek at his blog HERE.
Mr. Diefenbach looking dapper as always.
Back to the game... I am pretty sure everyone from the Hinckley/Big Rock area came out to watch.

It got pretty close at the end as Ridgewood came back and tied the game.

With about 20 seconds left in regulation HBR missed their shot and the game went to overtime.

4 minutes later the Lady Royals were jumping out of their chairs as they won the game 49-44 to move onto the finals.
